Birdie Boone

Birdie Boone was always encouraged to be creative and declared her intent to be a potter at the age of six. She went on to earn her BA from the College of William and Mary in Virginia in 1994, and her MFA in artisanry/ceramics from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, in 2005. Birdie has taught at Emory and Henry College in Virginia, and has been a resident artist at the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts in Helena, Montana. Hello Dorte,
Manganese carbonate is about half the strength of manganese dioxide. Birdie prefers manganese carbonate. If you use dioxide, half the full amount in order to match the capacity of the carbonate. More nuanced colors are possible with lower concentrations of manganese.

I am trying to mix your glaze, and wonder which is right in terms of the manganese - do you use dioxide or carbonate? you say both in the video, and the written recipie is with dioxide, but you say it is carbonate, which you prefer.. so which is it? :) Thanks Read full comment
